Esther Friedel (nee Schmulewitcz) on Monday, September 17, 2012 passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Springfield, N.J. while visiting for the Rosh HaShana holiday.  She was 90 years old.  Born in Zdunska Wola, Poland she survived several Ghetto liquidations and concentration and labor camps in Poland during the Holocaust.  While growing up she had attended the Sara Schneer’s Bais Yaacov School for Girls and was taught by the first graduates of the school.  After WWII she left Poland and moved to a relocation and rehabilitation camp in Sweden where she met her future husband Mordeci who had been a rabbinical student.  Together they moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they raised their three children and opened a grocery business from which she retired over 40 years ago.  She was a member of the Sisterhood of the Suburban Orthodox Congregation of Baltimore, MD., as well as Hadassah, Pioneer Women, Mizrachi and Amit Women, all of Baltimore, MD.  She was also an avid participant in many needle craft hobbies.  She is survived by her husband Mordeci, her son, Samuel Friedel, of Baltimore, Maryland, and her two daughters, Rebecca Friedel also of Baltimore, Maryland and Sharon Fersel of Springfield, N.J. as well as a sister, Sala Achtman.
