Frederic Bernstein died on Thursday evening February 23, 2017 surrounded by his family.  He was 86.  Born in New York City he lived in Morristown, N.J. for the past 58 years.  He was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, held a B.S. from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, and an M.S. from New York University, both in mechanical engineering.  He worked for the U.S. government for his entire career at the Picatinny Arsenal in Jefferson Township, N.J. retiring in 1994.  He was a member and Past President of the Morris Choral Society of Morris County, a Member and past Financial Secretary of Temple B’nai Or of Morristown and a Baal Tekiah for the synagogue (a ritual officiant responsible for blowing the rams horn on the high holidays).  He also taught many students how to perform the ritual of Tekiah Shofar.  In high school and college he was also a band leader and trombone player.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ricki (nee Luckton), and two daughters, Melissa (Chris) Pickell of Flemington, N.J. and Marcia (Keith) Waldman of Cherry Hill, N.J.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah, Josh, Julia and Samantha.
