Rita Brecher passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at her residence in Denville, NJ.  She was 84. Born in Newark she lived in Hillside, Irvington, and Springfield for over 55 years, before moving to Denville in 2012.  She held a bachelor’s degree from Upsala College in English with a minor in French and a Teacher’s Certificate from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean University).  She was an active member of Deborah and the PTA of Springfield, NJ.  She also was a volunteer along with her late husband David, at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.  She started her teaching career in Hillside, NJ, and later became a substitute teacher who also taught French at the F.M. Gaudineer Junior High School in Springfield, NJ.  She went on to become an ESL teacher and private tutor at various locations in Union County, NJ, including Springfield, Plainfield, Kenilworth, Berkeley Heights and Clark.  She loved teaching and was beloved by all her students. She was predeceased by her late husband David and daughter-in-law Marla, and is survived by her two sons Stuart Brecher, Esq., Steven (Shari) Brecher, her daughter, Bonnie Brecher, her sister Edna Bobker and four grandchildren, Elissa (Jeremy) Marks, Erica Brecher, Andrew Brecher, and Ian Brecher.  Donations in her memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
